Provincial Hershey Meet Gets Record Attendance Over 300 youth from across New Brunswick competed in the June 24th Hershey Provincials at the Canada Games Stadium in Saint John. It was a fantastic meet with exciting races in all age groups. The top six athletes in each of the events are invited to participate in the Atlantic Hershey Championships to be held on Sunday July 9th in Dieppe. Hershey Officials for the North American Final will compare times for top finishers at Atlantics to the results from other Region 6 meets held in Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Newfoundland, Rhode Island and Vermont and select the top person for each event. They will select a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 25 children from the Atlantic Provinces (9 - 14 years of age) to attend the North American final to be held in Hershey, Pennsylvania in mid-August. All expenses for the event are funded by the Hershey Chocolate Company.

Scott Simpson Canadian Champion! - The 10000m Canadian Championships (held separately from the Canadian Senior Championships to be held in Ottawa in August) were run this past Sunday in the Abbotsford Lafarge International Track Classic in BC. Scott Simpson from Sackville NB finished third in the race behind two Mexicans, thus claiming the Canadian Champion title in 29:51.04. Only 0.75 seconds separated the top 3 Canadians.
Scott's time is actually a minute and a half faster than the NB record, but as he resides in Victoria BC and is a member of Athletics BC, the NB record should not be validated...
