The 36 athletes from Team NB witnessed a few excellent performances worth celebrating at this past weekend's Legion National Athletics Championships held in Burnaby BC.
Geneviève Lalonde, from Moncton, raced what was without a doubt the highlight of the weekend. Her two victories in both midget girls distance races were very impressive indeed. It started Saturday with a win in the 1500m in a time of 4:36.32. Then, on Sunday, she showed all her qualities as a true distance runner by winning the 3000m in 9:56.64, good for a new Legion National record - and also faster than the winning time for the juvenile girls 3000!!

Aug 9 2006 - 2006 Hershey North American Final
2006 Hershey North American Final Five young athletes represented Atlantic Canada as part of the Region 6 team at the grand event of the Hershey program, held in Hershey PA from 3-6 August. Kiersten Brennan, Kevin McGraw, Tommy McGinn, Mike Jacobs, all from New Brunswick, as well as Kyle Miller, from Paradise Newfoundland, joined the 549 talented athletes in the meet, and were able to meet and watch in action 14 Olympians from Team USA including Carl Lewis, Dan O’Brien, Sanya Richards, and Monique Henderson. Kiersten Brennan, from Blackville ran the 9-10 girls 200m and came 7th in a time of 34.17. Kevin McGraw from Shédiac ran the 9-10 boys 100m, posting a 15.86sec time. That was good for a 6th place finish. Tommy McGinn of Fredericton ran the 11-12 boys 400m with a 4 second PB finishing in 4th with an excellent time of 1:03.49. Mike Jacobs, also from Fredericton, ran the 13-14 boys 800m and finished 6th with a time of 2:15.88. Kyle Miller of Paradise, Newfoundland competed in the 11-12 boys standing long jump. He came 6th with a jump of 7 feet, 7.25 inches. For the full results click here.
