Jul 31 2010 - 2010 Canadian Senior National Track and Field Championships

On Friday at the Canadian National Track and Field Championships three New Brunswick athletes took part in the 1500m heats. Two in the women's and one in the men's. Lydia and Nadine Frost took part in the women's 1500m heats and Adam Kellar took part in the men's 1500m heats.

Lydia Frost placed 19th in the 1500m heats with a time of 4:38.13 and Nadine Frost finished 20th in a time of 4:40.19. Adam Kellar posted a time of 3:53.26 which was good enough for 14th place.

Jul 31 2010 - Caleb Jones Silver, Michael Leblanc Bronze!

The final day of the Canadian Senior National Track and Field Championships were the most exciting and successful for New Brunswick athletes. Caleb Jones came 2nd in the men`s Javelin with a huge throw of 73.25 meters. This throw is a New Brunswick outdoor Junior and Senior record. Michael Leblanc came 3rd in the men`s 100m dash in a blazing fast time of 10.37s with a 1.5 wind. He advanced  to the finals with a 10.43s run with a 1.0 wind in the semi finals.

Pascal Cyr also participated in the men`s javelin throw. His best throw of the day was 56.85m which placed him 9th.

Jul 30 2010 - 2010 Canadian Senior National Track and Field Championships

On Wednesday evening July 28th the 2010 Canadian Senior National Track and Field National Championships got underway in Toronto, Ontario at Varsity Stadium. Thursday evening saw four New Brunswick athletes in action. Jean Marc Doiron ran the heats of the men's 800m, Nadine and Lydia Frost ran the heats of the women's 800m, and Pierre Landry took part in the men's long jump preliminaries.

Jean Marc Doiron placed 19th overall in the heats of the 800m with a time of 1:54.34. Nadine Frost placed 13th in the women's 800m heats in a time of 2:10.61 while her sister Lydia Frost placed 16th overall with a time of 2:12.45. Pierre Landry had a jump of 6.70m in the men's long jump preliminaries. Unfortunately none of these athletes advanced to their respective finals.

Jul 29 2010 - ANB Camp

On Saturday July 24th Athletics New Brunswick wrapped up its youth track and field camp held in conjunction with the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships. The camp was a huge success with participation from over 65 youth athletes from New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.


The camp consisted of morning track and field sessions where the camp participants were instructed by coaches and instructors from across Canada in sprints, hurdles, throws, and jumps, a fun afternoon activity, and watching the evening sessions of the World Junior Track and Field Championships. The coaches and instructors were Earl Church, Gabriel Leblanc, Robin Bone, Alexandre Doucet, Susan Sobey, Sandra Bordan, Colin McAdam, Thelma Wright, Dave Thomas, Stevenson Bone, Nicole Larade, and Natalie Riley.


 The afternoon field trips included going to Parlee Beach, Crystal Palace amusement park, and Magic Mountain Water Park. The camp participants also had the chance to meet and be given advice from the long jump world record holder Mike Powell and Olympic 4x100m relay gold medalist Bruny Surin.


During the evening sessions at the World Junior Championships the camp participants got the chance to watch the best junior track and field athletes in the world in their respective events. Highlights of the evening sessions for the camp participants were getting the chance to witness Canada’s two bronze medals. Taylor Stewart of London, Ontario won a bronze medal in the men’s long jump with a jump of 7.63m while Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ontario won a bronze medal in the men’s 200m dash with a time of 21.00 seconds. The camp participants also had the chance to meet members of Team Canada during the Premier’s barbeque held on Thursday evening July 22nd. Along side Team Canada the camp participants got the chance to meet many of the other teams taking part in the Championship and were able to trade athletic gear with them.


Special thanks go out to chaperons Wendy Quigg, Andre Touchburn, Sharon Peabody, and Susan Tanton for keeping the kids safe and in line. The camp could not have gone on without you.

Jul 26 2010 - World Juniors

This past week four New Brunswick athletes competed at the International Association of Athletics Federation World Junior Track and Field Championships held in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Genevieve Lalonde of Moncton competed in the women’s 3000m steeplechase and 1500m. Ryan Cassidy of Grand Digue competed in the men’s steeplechase. While Caleb Jones of Saint John competed in the men’s javelin and Fredericton’s Adam Gaudes was on the men’s 4x400m relay team.

Genevieve Lalonde started off New Brunswick’s participation on day 2 of the competition. She placed 2nd in the 2nd heat of the women’s 3000m steeplechase in a Canadian National Junior Record with a time of 10:03.88 . On day four Genevieve ran in the finals of the women’s 3000m steeplechase she placed 6th overall and broke her previous Canadian and establishes a new  North American Junior record in a time of 9:57.74.

On the 5th day of the competition Genevieve competed in the women’s 1500m. She placed 6th overall in the 2nd heat of the preliminary race with a new personal best of 4:19.20 . Genevieve only missed the final by two spots.

Ryan Cassidy ran in the 3000m steeplechase preliminary race on day 5 of the competition. He finished 11th overall in the 2nd heat with a time of 9:11.70 .  This is a very respectable time.

Caleb Jones competed in men’s javelin preliminaries and in the men’s final on day 4 and day 5. In the preliminary round Caleb through the javelin 69.36m to place 5th in his section and qualified for the final. In the final he through 69.77m which is a new personal best to finish 10th overall.

Adam Gaudes competed in the men’s 4x400m relay on day 6. He ran the 2nd leg of the relay. Adam ran a very strong leg passing two people in the process. Unfortunately Canada’s team was disqualified for an exchange violation.

These athletes represented their provinces and their countries very well this past week. They should be very proud of themselves. Athletics New Brunswick congradulates all participants and the local organisersfor a great event!

Jul 16 2010 - 5 New Brunswick athletes qualify for Hershey North American Final

Five NB athletes have qualified to compete in the 2010 Hershey North American Track & Field Championships in Hershey, PA on August 7th 2010.

Attending for his second time will be 14 year old Joshua Shanks (SJT), who will compete in the boys13-14 1600m race. Joining him Pierre Dumouchel (SJT) who will compete in the 13-14 boys 800m. Also from Saint John area the boys will be joined by Sarah Kean who will compete in the 11-12 Girls 800m. Rounding out the team will be Andrew Leblanc (FFT) and Jack Bershire (FFT)  from Fredericton both of whom are return to Hershey for the second time.

Congratulationsto all these Athletes!

 Hershey Foods Corporation covers all expenses associated with this trip. The Hershey program is open to boys and girls aged 9-14 in all 50 states and across Canada. It is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize sportsmanship. It has become the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America with over 400,000 participants.

Jul 14 2010 - NB legion Team announced

N.B. Command, Royal Canadian Legion and athletics New Brunswick have announced today the Youth Team that will represent the province at the 34th National National Legion Camp  and Canadian Youth and Midget Track & Field Championships to be held in Ottawa, Ontario from August 4th to 10th.

Jul 6 2010 - New Brunswick Relay Teams Gold and Bronze at Canadian Junior Championships

This past weekend at the Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships held in Moncton New Brunswick's junior girls 4x100m relay team won a gold medal in the provincial division while the junior boys 4x100m relay team won a bronze medal.

The junior girls team was made up of Sarah Taplin, Pascale Ouellette, Victoria Baba, and Samantha MacDonald.

The junior guys team was made up of Adam Gaudes, Alex Stuart, Richard Ivey, and Alexandre Coholan.

Great work relay teams!


Jul 5 2010 - 4 New brunswick Athletes qualify for World Junior championship!

Moncton– Following the conclusion of the Canadian World Junior Trials, Athletics Canada announced this morning the team that will represent Canada at the 2010 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships.  59 athletes from across Canada will converge on Moncton July 19-25 to take on the worlds’ best.

The fruit of this legacy is already providing benefits with a record breaking 7 athletes from Atlantic Canada making the Words Jr team.  Ryan Cassidy (O2) of Grande-Digue, New-Brunswick, Caleb Jones of Saint-John (SJT), New Brunswick, Adam Gaudes of Fredericton, NB (FFT) , Geneviève Lalonde from Moncton, New Brunswick(O2), Rachael McIntosh of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Chelsea Whalen of Liverpool, NS  and Mattias Wolter from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia all made the team competing in front of numerous friends and family.

During the event, Caleb Jones set a new Canadian Junior Championship record in the men’s javelin with a heave of 69.68 metres.

Jul 5 2010 - New Brunswick Records Fall at Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships

This past weekend at the Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships held in Moncton Adam Gaudes of Fast Tracks, Geneviève Lalonde of O2, and Robin Bone of Saint John Track Club set new provincial records in their respective events. Adam set a new Junior Male 400m record in a blistering time of 48.19 seconds. Geneviève set a new Junior and Senior Female 2000m steeple chase record in an impressive time of 6:37.41s. Geneviève's time was only 1.4 seconds off the Canadian Junior Championship record and the Canadian Junior record. Robin established a new Youth, Junior, and Senior Female pole vault record with her jump of 3.65 meters. Keep up the great work Adam,Geneviève, and Robin!
