Feb 28 2011 - Britt named to IAAF World Cross Country Championship Team
OTTAWA - Athletics Canada announced today a contingent of 18 athletes who will represent Canada in Punta Umbria, Spain at the World Cross Country Championship. The championship takes place March 20 on a 2-kilometre circuit over well maintained ground and through Huelva, Punta Umbria’s beautiful pine forests. Among the athletes named is our own Barry Britt (SJTC). Congratulation Barry!!
Feb 27 2011 - CDN University Conference Championships
At the Ontario conference in Toronto. Lydia Frost captured the bronze medal in the 1500m in a time of 4:31.26 she also finished 6th in the 1000m 2:54.59. Nadine Frost was 6th in the 1000m 2:52.66.Chris Robertson finished 5th in the MenIndoor Pentathlon with a score of 3168 which breaks his own Provincial Senior record.
At the CanWest Championships Adam Gaudes finished 10th in the 300m with a time 35.72.
At the Atlantic Championship ANB members were very successful : UNB athletes : Sarah Myatt won the women’s 600m in 1:38.52. Teammate Alex Black won the Women’s shot put with a toss of 11.79m. Richard Ivey finished 2nd in the 60m with a time of 7.25. Alex Stuart was 3rd in the men’s 300m (38.49). James Murphy was 3rd in the men’s 1500m (4:10.12)
U de Moncton:Jean Marc Doiron captures a silver in the 1000m (2:31.57) , a bronze in the 600m (1:23.59) and gold in the 4x400m. While Naomie Maltais finished 2nd in the Weight throw with a toss of 12.52m.
Feb 21 2011 - Barry Britt 4th at NACAC Cross Country
In his first international event as a senior Barry Britt did not disappoint finishing 4th at the at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association cross-country championships in Trinidad and Tobago. With a time of 23:53.8 for 8000m Barry finished 4th overall (2nd Canadian) and help Team Canada finished 2nd in the team championships! Way to go Barry!!
Feb 20 2011 - Mike Leblanc victorious in Montreal
Montreal - Making his Indoor debut New Brunswick fastest man, Michael Leblanc (ASEA) won the 60m at The McGill Open in a quick time of 6.74 beating Olympian Hank Palmer . This time ranks Mike 3th in Canada. Not bad for a first Indoor race of the season! Congrats Mike!
Feb 20 2011 - Frost sisters shine at Hal Brown Memorial Indoor Meet
Congratulations to Nadine and Lydia Frost representing Guelph U. who finished 1st and 2nd in the 1500m at the Hal Brown Memorial Indoor Meet in Toronto this past weekend Nadine ran 4:30.14 while Lydia 4:30.15 (yes 0.01 apart!) must have been a great photo finish! This time gives the sisters their automatic standard for the CIS championships and ranks them 3rd and 4th in the Country! Congrats, they will be running at the OUA championships next weekend..
Feb 14 2011 - NB Indoor championships Recap
Over 200 athletes participated at our 2011 Indoor NB championships. Fredericton Fast Tracks were named Team Champions with a total point count of 683, Saint John Track Club came second with 659 points while Fredericton Legion track club finished 3rd with 429 points. An amazing 6 provincial record were set during theses championships:
-Chelsey Hall (Fast Tracks) broke her own bantam and midget 1200m record with a time of 4:02.10.
- Hannah Arsenault (Saint John Track club) establishes a new mark in the midget girls (13-14) 2000m with a time of 8:10.62.
-Naomie Maltias (UdeM) establishes not only a new provincial record in the junior and senior weight throw but also set a new University de Moncton record with a throw of 12m61
- Aaron LeBlanc (ASEA) from Memramcook set a new youth (16-17) weight throw record with a toss of 12m91.
The competition also saw 3 new Field house records
-Julianna Bois (Dalhousie U) in the triple jump with a leap of 10.91m
-Geoff Harris (Halifast) in the men’s 1000m 2:28.75
-Hannah Trites (FFT) in the women’s 1000m (3:40.91)

Feb 14 2011 - Barry Britt is ready for Trinidad!
Barry Britt (SJT) ran 8:07.89 for 3000m in Seattle on Saturday this time breaks Joel Bourgeois NB Indoor 3000m record which was 8:13.54 . Barry will be leaving this Wednesday for Trinidad and Tobago to participate in the 2011 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships held Saturday February 19. Congratulation Barry and good luck!
Feb 13 2011 - Chris Robertson sets new mark in the Senior Pentathlon
Congratulations to Chris Robertson (ASEA) for setting a new provincial record in the Senior Pentathlon in Windsor ON. Chris is in his rookie year and competes for Western Ontario University. His score of 3018 ranks him 13th among Canadian University Athletes.
Feb 2 2011 - ASEA Warm-up Meet to host World Athletics Day
OTTAWA - Athletics Canada is pleased to announce today that the ASEA Warm-up Meet will play host to the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Athletics Day (WAD) on May 14, 2011. The event will take place at Moncton Stadium in Moncton, New-Brunswick site of the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships.
The ASEA Warm-up Meet will receive a grant from the IAAF to assist in the organization and operation of the competition, promotional materials will also be made available to assist in the promotion of the competition and of World Athletics Day 2011.
Now in its 16th year, World Athletics Day is an initiative to promote athletics to youth worldwide. Last year’s edition featured participation from over 140 countries. This year youth athletes (born 1994 and 1995) and school based age groups (born 1996 to 1998) are the focus of the event.

Feb 1 2011 - Samantha Macdonald sets new pentathlon mark
Competing for Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Samantha Macdonald scored 2,933 points this weekend n the women’s pentathlon. This mark establishes a new junior NB record and also ranks Sam second overall in the United States NJCAA Division 1. Congratulations Sam keep up the good work!
