Athletics New Brunswick is happy to announce that membership is now open for the 2013

season !  Athletes, coaches, officials and associate can register by going to .

Anyone who registers before December 15th will automatically be entered to win a Timex GPS Watch valued at over 300$. Remember that membership includes your 2013 Athletics Canada membership, your insurance coverage, discounts on goods & services from ANB.   Also,  membership is also required to participate in any Provincial & National Championships, to be part of any ANB program/team and to be listed in the provincial and national rankings. Sep 23 2012 - Ryan Cassidy wins first XC race of the year plus AUS race recap


Ryan Cassidy of Grand Digue won this past weekend his first cross country race of the season yesterday at the St. Martin's Invitational in Lacey, Washington . The 19 year old runner who competes for the University of Victoria covered the 8km course in 25:40.75 over 5 seconds ahead of 2nd place with this he also helped his team win the team title. 

Next up for Ryan’s is the Western Washington Classic Invitational on Oct. 6 in Bellingham, Washington. Ryan who last year won the Canadian Junior Cross country Champion will also compete at the National CIS Championships on November 10th in London, Ont and on November 24th he will run his first National Championships as a senior Athlete.

Wesselius, Pellerin  and Manuel in the top 10 in Antigonish


In the Atlantic University 2nd league race also held Saturday in Antigonish NS, Lee Wesselius of River Glade New Brunswick (running for St-FX) finished 2nd  in the 8km race( 26:30) while Jérémie Pellerin of Cocagne ( U de Moncton Aigles Bleues) was 6th  in (27.11) . In the women’s 5000m race Lynette Manuel of Oromocto (running for St-FX) was 8th (19:41)

Sep 22 2012 - Réjean Chiasson 4th at National 10km championships

The native of Tilley-Road New Brunswick was able to finish 5th overall (4th among Canadians)   at the Canadian 10km Championships in Toronto, in a time of 30:48.90.  The 28 year old runner who currently lives and train in Toronto was only 24 second from the winner Olympian Reid Coolsaet of Hamilton (30:24.7). The silver medal went to Rob Watson of Vancouver (30:35.4)  and Bronze  to Matt Brunsting of Guelph(30:36.7)  .

‘’This is truly a great results for Réjean especially considering he is more of a Marathon runner’’ said Gabriel LeBlanc Technical Director of Athletics New Brunswick.   ‘’Réjean had a incredible past 2 season winning the Canadian Marathon Championships in 2012  and running the fastest ever marathon by a New Brunswick Athlete in 2011 with a time of 2:17.48. Next season he hopes to represent Canada at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia  in August 2013 he is also hoping to represent New Brunswick at the Jeux de la Francophonie in Nice France. ‘’ added LeBlanc

The women’s race was won by Megan Brown of Toronto (33:33.6), silver to Lanni Marchant of London, ON while bronze went to Tara Korir of St. Clements, ON.

Sep 20 2012 - Gabe Leblanc Awarded the 2012 Randy Dickinson Community Inclusion Award

Recreation New Brunswick is proud to announce that Gabriel Leblanc, ANB's Technical Director has been  awarded the 2012 Randy Dickinson Community Inclusion Award. Recreation New Brunswick’s Community Inclusion Award is presented on an annual basis for the purpose of recognizing a person, program or facility that has furthered the inclusion of persons with disabilities within the area of sport, recreation and active living in New Brunswick.

Gabe's award ackowledges the hard work he has put into the development of Para-Athletics in our province and he will be formally recognized at the RNB Awards Banquet which will be held at the Delta Beausejour in Moncton on Thursday October 11th

Athletics New Brunswick is very pleased to announce that the nomination for the 2012 ANB award is now open!

Please ensure that you nominate athletes/coaches/officials/volunteer for their accomplishments and performances throughout the year. Deadline for submitting names is October 15th 2012.

Sep 18 2012 - Brian Gilliss in the Oromocto Sport Wall of Fame


Brian Gilliss will be inducted into the Oromocto and Area Sport Wall of Fame on November 17th 2012. He is been inducted for his over 35 years of involvement in sports, especially in athletics, cross-country racing and road racing  in the Oromocto area. As we all know Brian has also been involve on the provincial level. He has been a coach with the NB Legion team for many years, and a coach with the NB Summer Games. He has coached, officiated, been meet director, organized track camps, been an ANB  board director, and in 2007 he co-chaired the Legion National in Oromocto. Track and Field in New Brunswick would not be the same without Brian's contribution.

Sep 17 2012 - Macpherson, Britt and Frost shine at their debut XC meet

This past weekend , many university team opened up their cross country season , New Brunswick athletes were able to shine all over North America. 

Sarah Macpherson of Fredericton  (running for the University of Tulsa)  finishes 2nd overall (first College runner) at the Southern Stampede XC Invitational in Missouri this past Saturday in a time of 17:33 over the 5km course. She helped her team captured the team title. 

While Barry Britt  of Hampton (who runs for University of Idaho) made his season debut at the 2012 Sundodger Invitational in Seattle , Washington with an Idaho course record of his own. He was the second collegian and fourth overall finisher with an 8000-meter time of 24:05.77 to lead the Vandal men to a third-place finish.

Nadine Frost of Bocabec (running for U of Guelph) finished 2nd at the Queen's Invitational in Kinston , Ontario with a time of 17:56.0 over the 5000m course Helping her university finish 2nd in the team title.  

'' These early results really shows that our New Brunswick athletes can compete among the best North American university athletes'' said Gabriel LeBlanc Technical Director of Athletics New Brunswick ``We are extremely proud of the talent coming out of New Brunswick''

Sep 16 2012 - UdeM Cross Country Classic Recap

Almost 500 athletes took part in the 30th Annual Université de Moncton Cross Country Classic this past Saturday in Moncton.  

Aside from the many elementary and  high school athletes several university teams from across the Maritime provinces came to compete in this great competition.

In the men’s University race , Francis Xavier University swept the podium . Connor Mcguire won the 7315 meters in a very fast time of 24:50.00 while Lee Wesselius of River Glade New Brunswick finished 2nd in what was his first ever university race. The former JMA Armstrong runner was only 6 seconds away from the winner. In 3rd place was Scott Donald while Jeremie Pellerin  de l’Université de Moncton was 4th .

The women’s race was won by Freida Aspnaes of UNB who was able to finish the 4625 meter course in a time of 17:31.40 in 2nd was Melissa Hardy of St-FX (17:51.90) while Natalie Kannenberg also in St-FX was 3rd in 17:52.30.


St. FX won both the men's and women's team events for the University races.

"It's great to see such great local talent excel here, especially with a record number of participants.", commented Gabriel LeBlanc, Technical Director of Athletics New Brunswick. "It is still fairly early in the season so it will be interesting to see how these runners do at the AUS Cross Country Championships (that will be held in Halifax on October 27th) while on their way to the CIS Championships, to be held in London, Ontario (on November 10th)."

- Sydney Bell won the girls 5 and under 450m run.

- Steven Richard won the boys 6 - 7 450m run.

- Madalyn MacKinnon won the girls 6 - 7 450m run. 

- Alexandre Richard won the boys 8 - 9 1450m run.

- Gabrielle Coté won the girls 8 - 9 1450m run. 

- Alex Arsenault won the boys 10 - 11 1450m run.

- Mélodie Landry won the girls 10 - 11 1450m run.

- Gavin Westbrook won the boys 12 - 13 2000m run.

- Natasha Vatcher won the girls 12 - 13 2000m run.

- Alex Cowar won the boys high school 3000m run.

- Noemi Chiasson won the girls high school 3000m run.

- Angus MacIntosh won the men's open 4625m run.

- Lavinia Carreau won the women's open 4625m run.

- Jean-Marc Doiron won the men's open 7315m run

Sep 13 2012 - Legs for Literacy Youth Event

Athletics New Brunswick is extremely happy  to once again partner with the Legs for literacy Youth event on October 20th in Moncton. Students from kindergarten to grade 8 are invited to take part in this discover athletics day! The first 250 registered participants will receive an event T-shirt and a medal more information can be found here:

Sep 12 2012 - Athletics Club Coach

Athletics New Brunswick is offering the second level NCCP course in athletics, called Club Coach (formely level 2) .  This course allows the coach to develop specialization in one of the event areas in track & field (sprints/hurdles, endurance, jumps, throws, wheelchair racing) as well as further developing knowledge on athlete development, training design, strength  training, and many other topics.
