On Saturday, the Saint John Track & Field Club hosted the first indoor meet of the season at the Irving Oil Field House, and with 153 participants, what a great season-opener it was for many of the athletes.
Carys Jacobson of the Saint John Track & Field Club ran the U16 60m in 7.96s, and the 300m in 44.78s.
Kiersten Hicks of ASEA jumped to 1.53m in the U18 high jump.
Victoria LeBlanc of the UNB Reds captured first in the senior triple and long jump with distances of 12.04m and 5.55m, respectively. LeBlanc’s triple jump performance auto-qualifies her for the USPORTS Championships in March.
Rebecca Lagace of Saint John Track & Field Club earned a new master’s record in the 40-44 shot put with a throw of 8.61m.
In the men’s 60m, an exciting final had UNB’s Adrian Kinney and Braden Harrison virtually tie- where it came down to the one-one thousandth of a second to determine the winner. Harrison prevailed with a time of 7.174s, followed by Kinney in 7.176s.
In an exciting men’s 1000m final, Tyler Adams and Mitchell Kean of the UNB Reds battled it out, with Adams edging out Kean in the final meters of the 5-lap race. Adams finished in 2:37.20, with Kean close behind in 2:37.79.
