Nov 28 2019 - Six New Brunswick Athletes take on National Championships this weekend
On Saturday, November 30th, Abbottsford, BC will host the Athletics Canada Cross Country Championships. Six New Brunswick athletes will be toeing the line at Clearbrook Park.
Geneviève Lalonde will take to the course in the senior women’s 10km after a lengthy and successful outdoor season where she won gold at the Pan-Am Games in Peru in July and was a finalist in the World Championships in late September in Doha, Qatar. Lalonde was crowned Canadian Champion in 2018 at this event in Kingston and will look to defend her title at this year’s National Championships. The senior women’s race starts at 2:00pm PST (6:00pm AST).
Five athletes will represent the Saint John Track & Field Club at the Championships including:
Erin Vringer who will compete in the U16 4km race at 10:00am PST (2:00pm AST). At last year’s event, Vringer competed in Kingston in the U18 category and finished an astonishing 5th place out of 199 girls- in a higher age category.
Ian Baldwin, Chance Blackstone, Aidan Donnelly and Jeremy Neuffer who also competed for the UNB Reds during the university cross country season will represent SJTC in British Columbia. These four men will compete over the U20 8km race at 1:15pm PST (5:15pm AST).
New Brunswick is well-represented at the championships and we look forward to watching these six athletes compete against the best in the country. You can watch the championships live here:
