FINAL - Canada Summer Games Athletics Team New Brunswick

Posted on Jul 12 2022

After a weekend of big smiles and sunshine in Saint John, athletes can be proud  knowing they left it all on the track. New personal bests were set  this weekend including an impressive new provincial record! New Brunswick athletes certainly never fail to impress.

Canada Games staff Bill MacMackin, Caitlin Marshall,  Steve LeBlanc, Chris Belof, Sue Loparco, Earl Church and Yvan Pelletier had no easy task picking the most competitive team. However, after long discussions, a group of talented individuals have been officially named to the team. A huge congratulations to those athletes! For those who may have fallen a bit short, those dealing with injuries or others, can be proud of how far they have come. “ A champion is not defined by their wins, but how they can recover when they fall”- Serena Williams

A couple of individuals peaked amongst all the great talented this weekend:

  • Samuel Bourque, Aetos Athletica, finished first in discus (category 20-34) with a throw of 48.81m setting a new provincial record. Bourque came very close to setting another provincial record in shot put but fell short with a throw of 15.92m.
  •
  • Lexie Shannon, Fredericton Reds, jumped 11.44m in triple jump this weekend. Lexie is the 2022 U SPORTS champion in triple jump and will be one to watch in Niagara.
  • Dante Cormier, Aetos Athletica, achieved a time of 36.63 in the 200m wheelchair and a time of 1:17.56 in the 400m wheelchair securing himself a spot on the team.

A big thank you to all athletes, officials, coaches, volunteers and parents who made this weekend a hit! Congratulations to all athletes who competed.
