The 2024 Royal Canadian Legion Youth Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Sunday afternoon at the Foothills Athletic Park in Calgary, Alberta.

Team New Brunswick was comprised of 36 athletes representing all 5 clubs in the province. Highlight performances from this past weekend include:

-               Claire Gromack (Team NB) held the NB Flag twice on the podium this past weekend. Claire threw a new provincial record of 50.66m in the U16 girl’s hammer throw to take the top sport on the podium, surpassing the previous NB record by almost 15m. Not only was this a U16 girl’s provincial record, this also broke the U18 girl’s provincial record that stood at 42.65 m. -               Orandy Campbell (Team NB) started us off with an outstanding run over the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.05s (+2.6m/s), securing the gold medal in the event. His time of 13.77s (-2.6m/s wind) in the prelims surpassed the U16 boy’s NB record held by Olympian Craig Thorne. Orandy’s time of 13.05s also ranks him 2nd fastest all time (all conditions) in Canada.

-               Frédéric Roy (Team NB) won New Brunswick’s first gold medal in the event since Caleb Jones in 2008. The provincial U16 record holder threw an impressive 49.15m to secure the top spot on the podium.
