A two time National Champion (1922, 1923), he competed in the High Jump for Canada as a 25 yr old in the 1924 Paris Olympics.  At the Olympic Trials that June, he was selected on the basis of being the only Canadian jumper remotely close to the Olympic standard of the day (from a previous performance that season); Because of this, he had to raise half the money to cover expenses of travelling to Paris with the Canadian Team ! Nagged with an injury he jumped 1.65m, well “below his PB” and did not advance past the qualifying rounds (22nd out of 27).  He was also a nationally ranked long (broad) jumper.
