Chris Belof named Athletics Head Coach of 2025 Canada Summer Games

Athletics New Brunswick is pleased to announce that Chris Belof has been selected as Head Coach for Team New Brunswick at the 2025 Canada Games, to be held in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador from August 16th - August 24th. The Games will host over 4000 athletes and coaches in the summer of 2025.

Belof has made a name for himself here in New Brunswick in the Athletics world. Originally of Saskatchewan, Belof spent time in Manitoba, British Columbia and Arizona increasing his coaching knowledge before being named ANB's High Performance Coach and Head Coach of the UNB REDS Track & Field and Cross Country teams in 2017.

As current coach with the Saint John Reds Track and Field Club, UNB REDS, and Athletics New Brunswick, as well as being named Sport New Brunswick's Coach of the Year in 2022, Chris is the ideal person for the position of Team NB's Athletics Head Coach

Chris holds an Advanced Coaching Diploma through the Canadian Sport Institute - Ontario and holds a wealth of knowledge in all event groups, especially distance and sprints. He has coached many athletes to local, provincial and national success. In 2021/2022, under Chris’ direction, Carys Jacobson, Shelby MacIsaac, Jared Howse and Erin Vringer all broke provincial records in New Brunswick at various distances, ranging from 100m to 5000m indoor and outdoor, with additional National success in coaching Fredericton’s Isaac Cull to a Canada Games silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase. He put New Brunswick cross country athletes at the forefront at the 2021 Canadian Cross Country Championships, where Jared Howse individually claimed silver which helped the Saint John Reds take home New Brunswick’s first team medal at these championships. At these same Championships in 2022, he coached Sierra Rodrigues to a 7th individual placing, which helped the SJ Reds earn a National title in the Women's U20 team category.

At the 2022 Canada Summer Games, he was a personal coach to three of the six athletes in the women’s 4x100m provincial record breaking team at those Games.

For his achievements at the AUS level, Chris was named the 2022 AUS Women’s Coach of the Year, and was also named one of three finalists for the Jane and Gerry Swan Development Coach of the Year with Athletics Canada.

Chris’ most impressive feat has been his selection to Team Canada’s World Championship team as lead coach in the road events in  2022 where Canada had some incredible performances across all fronts. He was also named event coach for the 2023 World Championships which are taking place in Budapest in August.

Being a former athlete himself and having competed on numerous provincial teams, Chris is now looking to build on his experiences and lead Team NB to great success leading up to and during the 2025 Games. 

Chris brings an incredible passion for our sport and community, and we are very excited to have him on board! In 2022, Team New Brunswick track and field athletes brought home a total of 9 medals, including 3 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze. With Belof taking the reigns, we’re hoping to improve upon last Game’s performances.
