Legion Nationals Recap

The Royal Canadian Legion Youth Track and Field Championships took place in Regina, SK this past weekend, and New Brunswick was well represented by its provincial team of 36-athletes, as well as one athlete competing open. In total, the contingent of U16 and U18 athletes captured 4 medals, broke 4 provincial records, achieved 19 top-8 placements, and set 28 personal bests.

Jenah Jones led the way with a silver medal performance in the U18 girl’s triple jump, leaping to a personal best of 11.73m. Jenah also placed 20^th in the long jump, with a best attempt of 4.90m. For her efforts, Jones was named Team NB’s Female Athlete of the Meet.

A trio of javelin throwers collected Team NB’s remaining three medals. Zachary Maillet won a bronze medal in the U16 boy’s javelin, throwing a new provincial record of 50.84m, and was named Team NB’s Male Athlete of the Meet. Danika Frenette claimed bronze in the U16 girl’s javelin, throwing a new provincial record of 39.61m, while Audrey Leavitt won scored a medal of the same colour in the U18 girl’s javelin, throwing a personal best of 40.50m.

Team NB’s U18 girl’s 4x100m relay team, comprised of Claire Ripley, Eva Trites, Audrée Sinclair, and Dorothy Compas, broke both the U18 and U20 women’s provincial records, getting the baton around the track and through the finish line in a time of 48.81 to place 8^th overall.

Team NB’s remaining top-8 placements were as follows:

• Emmanuel Eyo placed 4^th in the U18 boy’s 400m (49.11 (PB)) and 8^th in the 200m (22.53).
• Team NB’s U18 boy’s 4x100m relay team, comprised of Darion Smart, Orandy Campbell, Emmanuel Eyo, and Thomas LeBlanc, placed 4^th (42.96).
• Sophie Owens placed 5^th in both the U18 girl’s 400m (56.30) and 800m (2:09.50).
• Wekatesk Peters placed 5^th in the U18 boy’s 3000m (8:50.92 (PB)).
• Team NB’s U16 boy’s medley relay team, comprised of Taejhan Beecher, Rhys Kouame Oulai, Zachary Maillet, and Samuel Chandra, placed 5^th (3:56.11).
• Team NB’s U18 girl’s 4x400m relay team, comprised of Claire Ripley, Maëlle Summerville, and Sophie Owens, and Audrée Sinclair, placed 6^th (4:02.54).
• Kirill Diyanov placed 7^th in the U16 boy’s high jump (1.68m).
• Robbie Stevenson placed 7^th in the U18 boy’s shot put (13.56m (PB)).
• Audrée Sinclair placed 7^th in the U18 girl’s 400m (56.85).
• Andersen Cameron placed 8^th in the U18 boy’s shot put (13.42m).
• Team NB’s U16 girl’s 4x100m relay team, comprised of Crystal Dogolé Yapi, Pippa Roberts, Peyton Piercey, and Olivia Breau placed 8^th (58.23).
• Team NB’s U16 girl’s medley relay team, comprised of Olivia Breau, Crystal Dogolé Yapi, Peyton Piercey, and Pénélope Locas, placed 8^th (4:44.65).

Remaining performances were as follows:

• Kirill Diyanov placed 9^th in the U16 boy’s long jump (5.51m).
• Thomas Dray placed 9^th in the U18 boy’s javelin (40.15m).
• Elodie Diallo placed 10^th in the U16 girl’s discus (28.55m) and 16^th in the shot put (9.68m).
• Team NB’s U18 boy’s 4x400m relay team, comprised of George Hunte, Delano Adesanya, Darion Smart, and Emmanuel Eyo, placed 10^th (3:36.43).
• Nathan Duquette placed 11^th in both the U18 boy’s 3000m (9:08.53 (PB)) and 2000m steeplechase (6:22.51), and placed 18^th in the 1500m (4:10.87 (PB)).
• Competing as an open athlete and representing Athlétisme Sud-Est / South-East Athletics (ASEA), Zoe LeBlanc placed 11^th in the U18 girl’s shot put (12.54m (PB)).
• Claire Ripley placed 12^th in the U18 girl’s 100m hurdles (15.84 (PB)) and 16^th in the 400m hurdles (1:10.17).
• Thomas LeBlanc placed 12^th in the U18 boy’s 200m (22.56 (PB)) and 22^nd in the 100m (11.28).
• Malik Gibbs placed 12^th in the U18 boy’s high jump (1.70m).
• Claire Gromack placed 13^th in the U18 girl’s hammer throw (44.21m) and 18^th in the shot put (11.68m).
• Rhys Kouame Oulai placed 13^th in the U18 boy’s 200m (24.10 (PB)) and 20^th in the 100m (12.33).
• Samuel Beaulieu placed 14^th in the U18 boy’s high jump (1.65m) and 15^th in the 800m (2:01.06 (PB)).
• Peyton Piercey placed 15^th in the U16 girl’s high jump (1.40m (=PB)) and 24^th in the 300m (49.70 (PB)).
• Delano Adesanya placed 15^th in the U18 boy’s 400m hurdles (58.79 (PB)).
• Felipe Folatelli placed 16^th in the U18 boy’s triple jump (12.23m) and 17^th in the long jump (6.01m).
• Jeremy Rhodes placed 16^th in the U18 boy’s long jump (6.04m) and 18^th in the triple jump (12.05m).
• Robbie Stevenson placed 16^th in the U18 boy’s 110m hurdles (16.11).
• Taejhan Beecher placed 17^th in both the U16 boy’s 200m (24.40 (PB)) and 300m (38.62), and placed 21^st in the 100m (12.40).
• Andersen Cameron placed 17^th in the U18 boy’s discus (30.55m (PB)).
• Wekatesk Peters placed 17^th in the U18 boy’s 1500m (4:10.04).
• Samuel Chandra placed 18^th in the U16 boy’s 800m (2:06.15 (PB)) and 20^th in the 1200m (3:26.20 (PB)).
• Pippa Roberts placed 18^th in the U16 girl’s 1500m steeplechase (5:53.28 (PB)) and 34^th in the 1200m (4:27.29 (PB)).
• Crystal Yapi placed 18^th in the U16 girl’s 100m (13.03 (PB)).
• Maëlle Summerville placed 20^th in the U18 girl’s 3000m (11:27.28 (PB)) and 21^st in the 1500m (5:18.00).
• Olivia Breau placed 20^th in the U16 girl’s 200m (28.00 (PB)) and 25^th in the 200m (13.74).
• George Hunte placed 21^st in the U18 boy’s 400m hurdles (1:02.86).
• Dorothy Compas placed 22^nd in the U18 girl’s long jump (4.73m) and 31^st in the 100m (12.99).
• Eva Trites placed 23^rd in the U18 girl’s 200m (25.88 (PB)) and 28^th in the 100m (12.76).
• Pénélope Locas placed 24^th in the U16 girl’s 800m (2:27.33), 25^th in the 2000m (7:09.75 (PB)), and 31^st in the 1200m (4:00.74).
• Darion Smart placed 27^th in the U18 boy’s 400m (53.18).
• Orandy Campbell placed 30^th in the U18 boy’s 100m (11.86).
• Audrée Sinclair placed 30^th in the U18 girl’s 200m (26.14).
