The Acadian Games is a multi-sport competition organized every year since 1979 in the Maritime Provinces. The founding father of the Acadian Games is Jean-Luc Bélanger who wanted to organize a great sporting event for Francophone youth as part of the festivities surrounding the 375th anniversary of Acadia. The first final of the Acadian Games took place from August 29 to September 1, 1979.
Athletics is one of the Games' star sports and has two age groups, 12-13 and 14-15.
