Claire Breau Medals at Canadian Mountain Running Championships

History was made by New Brunswick’s lone entry in this past weekend’s Canadian Mountain Running Championships in Beaupré, QC. Claire Breau of Athlétisme Sud-Est / South-East Athletics (ASEA) won the bronze medal in the U20 Women’s Classic Up & Down, becoming New Brunswick’s first ever female medalist at these championships. The 6.1K race saw competitors climb over 330m on Mont-Sainte-Anne, before immediately travelling back down and into the finish line. Claire finished with a time of 38:10.
Beyond serving as the national championships and world team selection trials, the event was also the final of the World Mountain Running Association World Cup, and featured performances from reigning world champions Philemon Ombogo Kiriago of Kenya and Nina Engelhard of Germany. This was the first time that the World Cup had visited Canada, and the first time that its final had been hosted outside of Europe. The races were hosted as part of the annual event, Défi des Couleurs, and included a variety of other community races ranging from 1K to 42K.
